Wells Fargo is one of the giants of the financial world. The company offers banking and loan services in addition to insurance brokerage and coverage throughout the United States. Through Wells Fargo Insurance Inc., the company offers insurance lines that include auto and other vehicles, business, life and health, and home and property protection.
Henry Wells and William Fargo founded Wells Fargo in 1852 to serve the West, offering banking and transportation services during the California Gold Rush. By 1910, the Wells Fargo’s network linked 6,000 locations and delivered various goods, which led to it being the source of the song, “ Wells Fargo Wagon” and “The Music Man,” which was created in 1912 and featured the wagon delivering band instruments.
The name Wells Fargo became synonymous with the six-horse stagecoach because of the company’s rich history of operating and guarding them. Visitors can see original stagecoaches in the Wells Fargo History Museums (located in California, Minnesota, Arizona, Arkansas and Oregon) and reproductions in Wells Fargo buildings and in parades across the United States.
The company has a number of awards to boast its reputation. Fortune ranked the company 19th in revenue among all companies in all industries for 2010. Additionally, Forbes ranked Well Fargo in the “Top 100 Best Companies In the World” for 2010.
