Transamerica’s roots began when Amadeo Pietro Giannini (A.P. Giannini), formed the Bank of Italy (now Bank of America) with Orra E. Monette in 1904.  In 1906, Giannini helped restore San Francisco after The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire by lending money to people in need.

In 1972, the Transamerica pyramid building was built in the San Francisco financial district and became an architectural landmark for San Francisco.
