In 1948, the Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was founded to give affordable insurance coverage to Tennessee farmers and the rural community. In 1973, Tennessee Farmers Life Insurance Company was added to the mix, and today these companies are lead the state as the leading writer of rural property coverage and life insurance, and the second largest writer of auto insurance.
Health insurance was also a concern for rural Tennesseans, and in 1947, the Tennessee Farm Bureau founded Tennessee Rural Health to make insurance available to members. Today, Tennessee Rural health is the largest private health coverage group in the state.
