Some quick facts about PEMCO Insurance:
PEMCO Insurance was founded in 1949 when a Seattle-area journalism and math teacher founded the Public Employees Mutual Insurance Company (PEMIC). He also founded the Public Employees Mutual Casualty Company (PEMCO), which merged with PEMIC in 1977 to create the modern-day organization.
Due to a large financial gift by the PEMCO Foundation, the Webster and Stevens collection of 60,000 black and white photos taken of the Northwest and Seattle during the early to mid-20th century have been preserved in Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry.
The giant PEMCO sign that sits atop the company’s office building in Seattle uses a not-for profit group called Solar Pie to show the amount of electricity and “carbon offsets” being generated by large solar panels on the building’s roof. This is intended to spread awareness about the usefulness of solar power.
