Woman’s Day has released a guide to preventing heart disease, a recent press release announced. In their latest issue, they provide step by step instructions on things women can do to avoid contracting heart disease, which is the number one cause of death for women.
The magazine’s recommendations include not smoking, maintaining a blood pressure under 130/80 and a cholesterol level under 200, exercising and keeping one’s body mass index under 30, controlling type-2 diabetes if afflicted with the disease, and avoiding high levels of stress.
The article states that many women don’t take good care of these things, and that in a survey by the American Heart Association, they listed the main reasons why as family obligations and caring for others, while some others simply did not realize the high risk that the disease presented for them.
These small steps could make a large impact on women’s risk of heart disease. According to a recent study, “more than half of all sudden cardiac deaths could have been prevented by staying at a healthy weight, eating well, exercising, and not smoking.”
Women at high risk for cardiac diseases should look into getting a life insurance policy that will provide for their families if they ever become a victim of sudden cardiac death.
