- Thanks to myriad treatment options and earlier detection techniques, the diagnosis of "cancer" is not necessarily an eminent death sentence. Nor does a treatable cancer diagnosis preclude an individual from obtaining life insurance.
Roger Palmer, vice president of analysis for Resource Insurance Consultants in Omaha, Neb., said obtaining life insurance after a cancer diagnosis is possible depending on the situation.

A hidden benefit of term life insurance: many policies are guaranteed renewable up to age 95 without an exam (assuming no major changes in medical condition). That said, every year the premiums increase until the initial term period has expired.
