Life insurance policies are advisable for people of all age groups, considering the many medical hazards that affect millions of Americans each year.
The third-leading cause of death in America is strokes, although the National Stroke Association points out that the majority of these can be prevented with healthy lifestyle adjustments.
More recently, the American Heart Association has released a report on the short-term effects of alcohol that could be of particular interest to those at a higher risk for a stroke. According to the organization, one’s risk for a stroke is twice as high in the hour after consuming beer, wine or liquor.
“The impact of alcohol on your risk of ischemic stroke appears to depend on how much and how often you drink,” said Dr. Murray Mittleman in the announcement.
Researchers noted that this elevated stroke risk can come with even one drink, but also pointed out that the longer-term danger lies in heavy alcohol consumption. In fact, light consumption of less than two drinks a day may actually help prevent strokes.
