A study published in the latest Journal of Clinical Oncology found that 90 minutes of normal-to-fast-paced walking each week were enough to lower the risk of death from prostate cancer by 61 percent. Additionally, the risk of dying from any cause dropped by 46 percent with that level of physical activity, the researchers found.
The study drew on data from the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, covering more than 2,700 men who had been diagnosed with non-metastatic prostate cancer between 1990 and 2008. The researchers stated that proportional hazards models were used to help make sense of the figures.
As if there wasn’t enough evidence that exercise has positive health benefits, the study’s conclusions should be a powerful argument for increased activity in the lives of men. In addition to a longer and more enjoyable life, active men could be eligible for better rates on life insurance.
