How Common Are Superbug Hospital Infections?

One risk that even healthy people can face when they visit the hospital for a seemingly minor procedure is an infection caused by bacterium-resistant methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.

The MRSA, or so-called “super bug” has been a growing concern in recent years due to its effect on thousands of hospital patients and also its ability to resist many current antibiotic treatments.

However, a recent Los Angeles Times report noted that the rate of MRSA-related infections appears to be on the decline nationwide.

Late last year, other media reports noted that hospitals in Norway have achieved a remarkable decline in MRSA infections in recent cases – apparently by not using as many antibiotic products.

From a life insurance perspective, hospital infections can affect even the strongest and healthiest individuals, and even the recent decline in statistics will leave many people at risk for such medical dangers.
