In 1896, Winston Churchill took out a personal accident policy with the Accident Insurance Company, another company that would later become a part of Aviva.
In 1912, Aviva (under the name Commercial Union) paid out £145,723 as an insurer of the Titanic. Today the company serves over 50 million customers worldwide (about 1 million in the United States) and is one of the largest insurers in the U.K., offering life and general insurance services.
Aviva’s Street to School program teams up with children’s charities to help children living and working on the streets in India, which has the largest number of street children in the world; Istanbul, Turkey; and the United Kingdom, where over 100,000 children under the age of 16 run away from home annually.
